Nextbase Dash Cam Battery Replacement – Signs Your Battery Has Failed
Share
The small rechargeable battery inside many Nextbase dash cams is not designed to power hours of driving. Its main jobs are to support orderly shutdown, retain settings and provide short-duration power when required. Age and repeated heat exposure eventually reduce its capacity.
Signs the battery may be failing
- The dash cam switches off immediately when external power is removed
- It repeatedly resets or struggles to complete shutdown
- Date and time settings are lost
- The unit behaves unpredictably during startup
- The case separates or becomes distorted because the battery has swollen
Why dash cam batteries deteriorate
Dash cams live in a harsh environment. A parked vehicle can become extremely hot in sunlight, while winter temperatures add further stress. Battery life therefore varies considerably with installation, climate, usage and charging conditions; there is no honest fixed lifespan that applies to every unit.
Battery fault or power-supply fault?
Before blaming the internal battery, test with a known-good Nextbase-compatible supply and cable. If a hardwire kit is fitted, try the original vehicle adaptor. Remove the memory card temporarily and reset the camera. Power or card faults can mimic a failing battery.
Can the battery be replaced?
On many models, yes. The unit must be opened carefully, the old cell removed and a suitable replacement fitted without damaging the display, ribbon cables or enclosure. A swollen cell requires particular care.
After replacement
The dash cam should be charged and then tested through startup, recording and controlled shutdown. FrameRate Builds offers model-specific UK mail-in battery replacement services with tracked return postage.
