The Nextbase 522GW has two groups of faults that customers often confuse: genuine battery problems and screen or main-board problems. A battery replacement is very effective when the symptoms actually point to the internal cell, but it is not a cure for every 522GW that freezes or displays a white screen.
Symptoms that fit a failing 522GW battery
- The camera behaves normally while connected to a good power supply but dies immediately when unplugged
- It cannot complete an orderly shutdown when vehicle power is removed
- It restarts as the ignition supply changes
- Battery retention is only a few seconds even after charging
- The case is distorted by a swollen internal battery
Symptoms that point beyond the battery

Why this distinction matters
The 522GW is a model where an intermittent screen or logic fault can sometimes improve temporarily after the unit warms up or after it has been moved. Fitting a battery to a camera with that type of fault may leave the real problem unchanged. The correct approach is to compare behaviour on stable external power with behaviour when the battery has to take over.
Checks before booking
- Try a known-good compatible adaptor and cable
- Remove the microSD card temporarily
- Reset the camera
- Charge it and compare powered versus unplugged behaviour

What happens after a battery is fitted?
The useful checks are not simply “does it turn on?” The camera should charge, start correctly, record, respond normally and then shut down in a controlled way when external power is removed. If another fault remains, it should be identified rather than masked.
Before posting
Remove the microSD card and send the main camera only unless another accessory has specifically been requested. Use a sturdy box; a padded envelope is not enough protection for the screen.
