Nextbase 522GW Screen Glitching, Freezing or Going White – Can It Be Repaired?
Share
A Nextbase 522GW that flickers, freezes, shows a white or black screen, or stops responding does not always have a simple screen fault. The symptoms can come from the battery, a loose internal connection, the display assembly or a deeper fault around the camera sensor and main board.
Common 522GW symptoms
- Screen flashes white, black or between different images
- Menus freeze or touch controls stop responding
- The dash cam resets or locks during startup
- The fault is worse when cold and improves after warming up
- The camera works intermittently after being moved or powered down
Checks to try before arranging repair
Test the dash cam with a known-good power supply and cable. Remove the microSD card temporarily, then reset the unit and check whether the fault remains. A poor hardwire kit, failing cable or problematic card can produce instability that looks like an internal fault.
Could the battery cause it?
Yes, sometimes. A swollen battery can press against internal parts or disturb a ribbon cable. Replacing the battery and reseating the connection may restore normal operation. However, a battery will not cure every 522GW screen or freezing fault.
When the fault is on the main board
Some 522GW units develop intermittent connections around the camera-sensor assembly or multilayer circuit board. These faults can be difficult to access and are not always permanently repairable. Heat-based rework may occasionally restore operation, but it cannot be guaranteed to work or remain reliable.
Realistic repair expectations
FrameRate Builds can inspect the unit, check the battery and connections, and assess whether the fault is economically repairable. Intermittent logic-board faults are handled honestly; if a dependable repair cannot be achieved, that is explained rather than presenting a temporary improvement as a permanent fix.

Does your 522GW work normally until it is unplugged?
If the screen and menus stay stable while the camera has a known-good external power supply, but the unit dies immediately or cannot complete shutdown when the cable is removed, the battery is a much stronger suspect than the display or main board. The separate battery guide explains that distinction in more detail.
